Some questions have been raised about what modifications to the referral would be acceptable to the International Office and at the same time conform to the Resolution passed at the International Convention. I am looking into this with the idea in mind to allow as many exemptions to the strike rule as possible. Exemptions such as: jury duty, military service, physical disability makes perfect sense, however other exemptions being suggested may put the Local vulnerable to a lawsuit. Until such time as we get an answer to my question and to protect our Local from adverse consequences and/or possible legal actions, Local 768 will NOT enforce the strike clauseof the Inside referral procedure. Please remember to follow the new re-sign dates: between the 10th and 16th of each month.
Please bear in mind that rules governing job referrals are very important and the Business Manager is responsible to insure that the Procedure is legal and non-discriminatory.
